Artist bio

• Began playing professionally with Paquito ‘D Rivera, Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, among many others (1980-present)
• Conducted first jazz workshop at the age of 18 playing with bassist Victor Venegas (1982)
• Conducted workshop and accompanied pianist Marco Rizo at the Henry Street Settlement for the Arts (1983)
• European Tour with Latin vocal legends Jose Alberto and Celia Cruz (Fall 1986)
• Taught and conducted Jazz workshops at Jazzmobile (an organization that presents, preserves promotes and propagates Jazz, America’s classical music (May 1986)
• Worked with the Gil Evans Orchestra (1989 -1991)
• Began studies on Bansuri Flute (North Indian Music studies) with Steve Gorn (1990)
• Recorded with Ray Barretto’s (Ancestral Messages) as part of his new ground breaking Latin Jazz ensemble (1992)
• Conducted and taught theory and improvisation for Jazzmobile, which according to its website (, “is a multifaceted, pragmatic outreach organization committed to bringing "America's Classical Music—Jazz—to the largest possible audience.” (1993)
• Taught woodwinds at The Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts (1993)
• Taught and lectured percussion workshops with Bobby Sanabria at Drummers Collective (1994-96)
• Co-founded Groove Collective, a New York based jazz ensemble that uniquely interprets a mélange of Latin, Soul, Jazz and Hip-Hop (1993-present)
• Collaborated with a variety of musicians including Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, and The Mingus Big band, Medeski, Martin and Wood, Gil Evans, Miles Davis, Widespread Panic, Prince, Chucho Valdes, Tito Puente, and Bobby Sanabria amongst others (1992-Present)
• Produced and orchestrated “Patience “ for Elvis Costello on the Album “North” recorded horns on “When I was Cruel”, Co Produced and performed ”Fire at Keaton’s Bar “with Debbie Harry, Elvis Costello and Roy Nathanson and the Jazz passengers (2001)
• Composed music and writing concepts for photographer Oliviero Toscani, composer Francis Kuipers, and film director Godfrey Reggio (1995-97)
• Composed soundtrack for the documentary Faces of Change, directed by Michele Stephenson (2005)
• Currently scoring documentary-The Changing Faces of Harlem, directed by Shawn Batey (2006)
• Worked and recorded with Pianist Chucho Valdes (1998)
• Havana Jazz festival as soloist with Chucho Valdes, Irakere and Roy Hargrove (December 1999)
• Currently on the board of Advisors teaching and mentoring young people with Road Recovery, an outreach program whose philosophy is that through educational and live performance-based programs they can help young people find their way towards healthy futures (1998- Present)
• Currently teaching and mentoring for the Ittleson center, The Graham Windam School in Mount Vernon and the Caron Foundation. (1998- Present)
• Has taught and worked for The Jewish Board for Family and Children’s services (2001-Present)
• Taught and lectured for the New School jazz program (2000-present)
• Began as co-producer with Japanese record producer Teruo Nakamura (2000-present)

• Delivered a lecture on the relation between Eastern and Western Harmonic philosophies that included demonstrations of composition and orchestration at the Salwe Center in Cairo, Egypt. (2005)
• Headlined the JVC Jazz festival at Prospect Park with The Groove Collective ( Summer 2007 )
• Special invited Guest to Peter Gabriel’s Womad World Music Festival in New Zealand. There he played alongside and collaborated with Billy Cobham Gyuto Monks (throat singers from Tibet), Femi Kuti, Tuvan throat singers, Saeid Shanbehzadeh, Salif Keita (March 2007)
• Worked and taught alongside maestro Fathy Salama-Egyptian Cultural Center in Cairo (Fall 2007)
• Gave Jazz workshops and then composed music with Children for a sold out concert in Guadalajara , Mexico at Treatro Diana (one of Guadalajara’s great theatres) (Summer 2008)
• Guest artist invited to work with children and adults at the Children’s Museum in Guadalajara ( El Trompo Magico ) (Summer 2008)
• Monterey Jazz festival with George Porter Jr. Falguni Shah and Jason Miles (2009)
• Presently being considered to head the Friends Seminary Music Department in Manhattan (2010)
• Has just signed a new contract to work for the Jewish Board of Children Services through the winter as a mentor and music /production teacher (2010)
• Working at the Henry Ittleson Center for child research as mentor/music therapist (Fall 2009)
• Working at the Linden Hill /Hawthorne N.Y. with teenagers with special needs (1999-Present)
• Working with Road Recovery/Caron foundation as a mentor and advisor. Teaching and helping young people stay sober and bridging them back to their lives (1998 to Present)
• Gave a two-day workshop about jazz and blues at the Nyack Free School district (Dec 2008).
• Has worked as a mentor and teacher at the Peace Valley Haven with seniors in Recovery, whenever possible (Oct 2009)
• Film scoring for National Geographic and other private productions (2009-present)
• Nominated for a Grammy 2001 for best jazz solo on a record, and in 2006 for best contemporary record of the year.
• Won Grammy for his work on best dance remix of the year on Little Louie Vegas Superfly (2007)
• Honored By United Nations University and the World Bank in Tokyo Japan for his work in bringing AIDs Awareness in the Pacific Rim through Music and Lectures (Dec 2007)
• Co –produced the Mount Fuji Jazz festival (2008)
• Lectured on improvisation at Universidad de los Andes and La Xavieriana then headlined the Jazz al Parque Jazz festival in Bogota, Colombia (2009)

• March 2013 Debuted String works with Chamber Ensemble at Shapeshifter as guest composer for Nioka Workman’s String Sistas .
• July 2013 Premiered Sacred Works music for Harp,Percussion,Contrabass and winds as St Augustines on the lowered East side.
• Lectured at Columbia University on Urban and World Music and its relation to the world ‘s Human experience (February 2010)

• Recently released solo record Brooklyn Connections Pony Canyon/Japan featuring artists Arturo O'Farrill, DJ LOGIC, world artist North Indian Falguni Shah and Moroccan Vocalist Malika Zarra amongst others (June 2010)
• Debuted new project focused on Soul/Jazz featuring drummer Cindy Blackman and Trombonist Fred Wesley in Guadalajara for the Solo Jazz series (July 2010)
